STARKVILLE — Charles Mitchell’s biggest offseason focus for improvement was the one area that is said to be uncoachable: speed.
The Mississippi State sophomore safety found out otherwise, he said, benefiting from a speed-first, competition-intensive program from strength and conditioning coach Matt Balis. In groups based on speed, players raced each other for increasingly longer distances.
“That’s how we built our speed up, like that,” Mitchell said. “I got the 40 time down.”
