Financial snapshots of some college athletics powers
Weathering the storm?
Some big-name college athletic programs might be recession proof. Others might not be so lucky.
Here are some financial snapshots:
Texas
2007-08 revenues: $120.3 million. From football: $73 million. From men’s basketball: $12.9 million
Football has been winning big ever since Mack Brown arrived for the 1998 season, and Royal-Memorial Stadium has been expanded and renovated in recent years. Average attendance could top 100,000 this year. The Texas economy has fared better than most. Only downside might be the conference: the Big 12 lacks the financial firepower of the Big Ten or the SEC.
