DeLaughter to plead guilty to lying to FBI
Hinds County Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter plans to plead guilty to lying to an FBI agent investigating a lawsuit DeLaughter was hearing that involved multimillionaire Dickie Scruggs, documents say.
Former Hinds County District Attorney Ed Peters, DeLaughter’s former boss who was retained by Scruggs to try to influence the judge, has received immunity from prosecution in exchange for his testimony against DeLaughter.
DeLaughter has insisted he is innocent and said he followed the law in all his rulings.
The indictment accuses DeLaughter of lying when he met Dec. 10 with FBI agents and told them he “never spoke to Ed Peters” regarding the Wilson case.
