A very early look at SEC basketball season
Two months ago the SEC was coming off a dismal men’s basketball season, and as player after player declared for the draft, it looked like the league might have to wait to get stronger.
But then players kept withdrawing from the draft, including both of South Carolina’s entrants. The only one to stay in was Kentucky’s Jodie Meeks, but the Wildcats had already done enough to make his departure almost negligible.
Knowing who will be back in school, here’s an early projection of how the SEC could finish next season:
EAST DIVISION
1. Kentucky | Ultimately, Meeks’ decision to leave school only mattered for the national picture. Kentucky had long since become the prohibitive East favorite, thanks to new coach John Calipari’s recruiting skills.
