Native Mississippian invites Cochran to Erie

Not as “someone with clout” but as a native Mississippian who has spent many years in Erie County, perhaps U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., would respond to my invitation to visit Erie after his wisecracking about no longer needing to campaign in Erie for U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (Erie Times-News, May 2).

It might impress him that as a young man, I loved Livingston Lake in Jackson, Miss., where he was once a lifeguard.

I’m also a graduate of Ole Miss, where he and former Sen. Trent Lott were students and cheerleaders. Though I was in the U.S. Army, we even have in common a bit of naval experience.

Having spent some time in Washington in the summer, I can assure Cochran that Erie and especially Presque Isle State Park are almost heavenly.
