GOP chair moves to block Democrats from voting in Republican primaries

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 20, 2009

The chairman of the Greenville County Republican Party has asked a federal court to declare parts of South Carolina’s election law unconstitutional.

GOP chair and attorney Samuel Harms hopes to block Democrats from voting in Republican primary elections.

“The Legislature has failed to act for too long, so the Greenville County Republican Party is going to push the issue in the courts,” he said.

A lawsuit Harms filed in U.S. District Court in Greenville claims the South Carolina State Election Commission is violating his constitutional rights to free association and equal protection under the law.
