Many may opt not to vote in Ward 1 race
Perhaps the toughest task the two candidates running for Jackson’s Ward 1 City Council seat have before them in this crowded municipal election season is convincing residents to vote in their race.
Ten Democrats are vying to be the next mayor of Jackson in one of the most competitive races in city history. With Republican mayoral candidate George Lambus considered an extreme long shot, the mayor’s race likely will be decided following the May 5 Democratic primary and a May 19 runoff.
The Ward 1 race will be decided May 5 also, but in the Republican primary, where two candidates are running for the seat. Voters in the northeast Jackson ward will have to decide which race is more important to them, because they cannot vote in both the Republican and Democratic primaries.
