Mississippi’s next governor?

Words of introduction from potential Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill Luckett, who stopped by The Clarion-Ledger today.

Luckett made a brief visit while he was in town for the Kroger assault case at the Hinds County Courthouse, which is across the street from the newspaper. Luckett represents Kroger.

Luckett isn’t just sitting around thinking about running .. he’s hiring campaign staff while he keeps his options open.

The only other Democrat whose name has been tossed around for governor is Attorney General Jim Hood, but he’s been pretty quiet on the issue. Last time I asked him about it, he gave me the standard “I’m just enjoying what I’m doing now and focused on my job” answer. The time before that, he told me that being governor couldn’t be much harder than being Attorney General.

If Hood opts not to run, that likely leaves Luckett sitting pretty while the Republicans duke it out.

Phil Bryant vs. Delbert Hosemann and/or Amy Tuck has been the talk for almost a year now.
