Imprisoned former Mississippi lawyer Paul Minor wants U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to support a prison furlough so Minor can spend time with his dying wife.
A federal appeals court recently rejected Minor’s request for bond pending appeal of his 2007 bribery conviction and 11-year sentence.
However, the court noted the imminent death of Minor’s wife may warrant a temporary release that could be issued by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Minor asked Holder in a letter dated April 10 for the Justice Department’s “full support” for Minor’s application for a 30-day furlough. His wife has terminal brain cancer.
The Justice Department didn’t immediately respond today to a request for comment.
