Roadblock on red light camera ban
House Bill 1568 aims to ban the cameras statewide, and it faces debate in the full Senate. But key House and Senate leaders working on the bill said Monday it probably will end up in negotiations between the chambers, where it could undergo significant changes.
At issue are questions over the constitutionality of lawmakers essentially voiding multi-year contracts that have been signed between cities and companies operating the cameras. Senate Highways and Transportation Committee Chairman Tom King said legislative attorneys are reviewing the issue.
