YP – John Grisham turns the corner on judicial bribery scandals

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 27, 2009

While in Jackson to receive a Governor’s Art Award, John Grisham made some comments at a book signing that seems to indicate that he’s turned the corner on the judicial bribery scandals that have involved his friends Dickie Scruggs, Joey Langston and Paul Minor. It’s about time.

“There’s nothing good you can say about it. I know Dickie, I know Paul Minor, I know Joey Langston, those guys are all in jail you know and it’s hard to believe. They were prominent trial attorneys and they made bad decisions. When the legal system starts to break down society starts to break down,” said Grisham.

Grisham, who was involved with all of these guys in ICEPAC, has made a bunch of statements that seemed to fly in the face of reality over the last fourteen months or so. I get that he’s their friend, but he’s also a former lawyer and a former elected official and an internationally known figure. His opinion counts, and it was wrong. I had been pretty harsh on him, but he’s now turned the corner and gotten it right.

I was tough on him when he got it wrong. Kudos to him now for getting it right.
