FSU May Have Erred in Head Coach In Waiting Plan
Florida State seems to have started a movement in college football with its “head coach in waiting” arrangement that calls for offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher to succeed the legendary Bobby Bowden. Since FSU announced the arrangement two years ago, Texas, Kentucky, Oregon, and Maryland have followed suit.
While FSU’s motive was apparently to entice a highly regarded playcaller to mend the offensive woes associated with Jeff Bowden’s rocky tenure, the jury is of course still out since the arrangement has obviously yet to come to fruition. Ditto for the other schools. Only time will tell if the experiment pays off for any of them.
