Powell speaks about economy, race at Ole Miss

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 10, 2009

The Clarion-Ledger, 2/10/9

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell spent time at the Boys and Girls Club here before speaking to a packed crowd at the University of Mississippi’s Gertrude Ford Center on Monday.

Powell said the boys and girls need more than role models at this time. They need help.

“You can be your own role model,” Powell said.

Before speaking to Ole Miss students as part of a Black History Month program, Powell answered questions from students who wanted to know, among other things, his take on the pending stimulus legislation.

“Obviously we need a stimulus package to get the economy going,” Powell said.
“I hope Congress in the very near future comes to a consensus and get it passed and get it out there.”
