Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said he sees early voting as a growing national trend that could encourage more voter participation and clear up some issues Mississippi has seen with absentee voting in recent years.
In a meeting with The Clarion-Ledger editorial board this afternoon, Hosemann plugged his positions on early voting and voter ID — both issues in the Legislature this session.
Most states have early voting and Hosemann said he thinks the practice could be gaining momentum here.
In recent elections, as many as 30 percent of voters have cast their ballots by early vote.
“It’s pretty clear to me that early voting is coming to Mississippi,” he said.
