New SEC head coaches prove adept at juggling
For SEC head coaching rookies Gene Chizik and Dan Mullen, the gamble was worth the risk.
Hired at Auburn, Chizik’s decision was simple: Spend his time assembling a full staff or hit the ground recruiting.
Chizik rolled the dice with the latter, and it has paid off to a degree with one big-time prospect, receiver Rueben Randle, showing interest in Auburn.
“You recruit and you recruit and you recruit, because if you don’t have players, you don’t have a chance,” said ESPN recruiting analyst Tom Luginbill. “Gene Chizik realized that he had a short time to make inroads and it was better to hit the road than hire his entire staff.”
