Oklahoma coordinator has roots at Northwestern
FT. LAUDERDALE — Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson was walking along South Beach last weekend when he got the urge to call Zak Kustok.
He asked Kustok how warm it was in Chicago. Then he commented on Kustok’s holiday card, which displayed a picture of the former Northwestern quarterback and his new bride, Nicole.
“She obviously lowered her standards to be with you,” Wilson told him.
That might look harsh in print, but of course it’s how men tweak—and show affection for—each other.
Wilson is undeniably funny. And blunt.
Just like his mentor, Randy Walker.
“The thing I love most about coach Wilson and coach Walker, they’re gonna shoot you straight,” said Kustok, now a financial adviser. “They would tell it to you like it is.”
