Commentary: Clemens can reclaim good name
I’m not sure why Memorial Hermann felt the need to issue such a public rebuke of Roger Clemens.
Is his name that poisonous?
Why now? Did the suits just now get around to reading the Mitchell Report? Did someone mail them a copy of the New York Daily News?
I hope they took the time to consider the whole man and not just the portrait of Clemens that has emerged in the last year.
This column isn’t a defense of his behavior. He chose a path that might land him in prison and probably will keep him out of the Hall of Fame.
He has been his own worst enemy. On the day the Mitchell Report was released, he could have taken a different approach.
“I’m sorry.”
Those two words could have saved him. It would be over by now. He didn’t need to smother us with details.
