Big Ten Football Fourth and Falling

Big Ten Football Fourth and Falling

With the exception of an Iowa drubbing of South Carolina, the Big Ten has not looked so big in the 2008-2009 college football bowl season. If Ohio State can get untracked against Texas, the national press might back off a little bit, but the it’s almost beyond debate that the Big Ten is no better than the fourth best football conference in the country.

The Pac-10 went 5-0 this bowl season, including a 38-24 beatdown of Penn State last night that wasn’t nearly that close. Two thoughts ran through my mind while watching that game. The Big Ten does not match up well with the other power conferences, and how screwed up the BCS system is for USC to be ranked fifth. Florida and USC would be an unbelievable good game. The Gators are going to gore Oklahoma, and we will never see what are obviously the best two teams in college football.
