There are a lot of reasons to like Bobby Bowden. One is that he’ll give an honest response to just about any question.
Like, would he work for free?
“Ha, ha,” Bowden said. “Probably.”
He’d just arrived Monday for the first Champs Bowl practice. I couldn’t tell how serious he was, but we might find out. That’s because as much as football powers love to throw money at coaches, FSU is not going to toss $7.5 million in one season.

But wait, you say. Doesn’t Bowden make $2.5 million? Where does that other $5 million come in?
