Duke rewards Cutcliffe with contract extension
David Cutcliffe signed a two-year contract extension as Duke’s football coach yesterday that will keep him at the school through the 2015 season.
Duke athletics officials announced the extension but declined to reveal its terms. Cutcliffe received the extension after completing his first season and guiding Duke to a 4-8 record and matching the program’s victory total of the previous four seasons combined.
Kevin White, Duke’s athletics director, and Richard Brodhead, the school president, agreed that Cutcliffe deserved the extension after the progress that the football program made in one season under Cutcliffe’s direction.
“I am grateful to Dr. Brodhead and Kevin for their confidence in our staff as we build on something really special here at Duke,” Cutcliffe said in a prepared statement released by Duke. “As I have said many times over the past year, Duke is a fantastic place with outstanding people and we are thrilled to be a part of this institution.”
