Mississippi electors cast all 6 votes for McCain
Mississippi electors have cast all six of the state’s votes for the Republican presidential ticket, but Democrat Barack Obama was expected to collect enough electoral votes nationwide Monday to formally win the presidency.
Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin carried Mississippi on Nov. 4 and received the state’s electoral votes – one for each of the four U.S. House districts and one for each of the Senate seats.
Six people chosen by the Republican Party met Monday at the Capitol to formally cast the votes. They were Jim Barksdale of Jackson, Barry Bridgeforth of Olive Branch, Fred Carl of Greenwood, Charles Doty of Jackson, Victor Mavar of Biloxi and Cindy Phillips of Madison.
Phillips replaced Bobby Chain of Hattiesburg, who had been chosen an elector but did not attend the meeting.
