Ex-guards’ legal fees vote set

It is unlikely again that Mayor Frank Melton’s two former bodyguards will get financial help from the Jackson City Council to pay attorney fees from their 2007 state trial.

The request on behalf of Michael Recio and Marcus Wright was not approved in October when the vote ended in a tie .

Council members Frank Bluntson and Kenneth Stokes want the council to vote on the matter again today.

Councilmen Leslie Burl McLemore and Jeff Weill have voted against the payments in the past. So has Councilman Marshand Crisler, who said he plans to cast his second “no” vote.

“It has to be a consistent position that the council takes,” Crisler said.
