Mississippi officials say they are not ready to give up on their bid for a $450 million Department of Homeland Security research lab after learning that Kansas is the likely location for the facility.
“We think we’ve got the best site with the best management system, and the best set of partners,” Gov. Haley Barbour said Wednesday.
The Department of Homeland Security is expected to release an environmental impact statement Friday that will identify Manhattan, Kan., as the preferred location for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility.
People will have at least 30 days to submit comments on the proposal. Other finalist sites may challenge the committee’s findings during this time.
