Vols aiming to rebound against Vandy

NASHVILLE — When last seen two weeks ago, Tennessee’s shell-shocked football team, reeling from Vols coach Phillip Fulmer’s forced resignation effective at season’s end, lost to 24-point underdog Wyoming.
If there was ever a team that needed an open date last week, it was the 3-7 Vols, who are 1-5 and at the bottom of the Southeastern Conference’s Eastern Division.

“The Wyoming week was really a hard week,” Vols senior receiver Josh Briscoe said. “It was great to get away last week, go home, rest and get away from football.”

At 11:30 a.m. today against Vanderbilt at Vanderbilt Stadium and next Saturday night vs. Kentucky in Neyland Stadium, rested and ready Tennessee obviously has nothing to lose. But in an unusual turn of events, the Commodores (6-4, 4-3 in the Eastern Division) are three-point favorites and do have something at stake in their last two games, including next Saturday at Wake Forest.
