BATON ROUGE — LSU coach Les Miles noticed more desire and intensity in his team as it closed the meat of its preparation for Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. game against Ole Miss on CBS.

“I think our team wants to play,” Miles said. “That’s the key.”
That was not apparent in the first half last week against Troy as the Tigers fell behind 24-3 before pulling out a 40-31 victory.
“The key is how our guys respond and I think our guys are ready to go in this one,” Miles said. “We had a good practice. The guys have had good focus this week. I like the shape we’re in physically. I look forward to playing this game. It’s going to be a rivalry game; we know it and certainly understand it.”
The Rebels (6-4, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) have won more games this season than in any year since 2003 when they finished 10-3 with quarterback Eli Manning. Ole Miss tied LSU for the SEC West crown that season with LSU winning it via the tiebreaker since it beat Ole Miss 17-14 in Oxford.
“They’re a very good team, but they play better against us,” Miles said. “We need to play a good football game ourselves. We’re looking forward to playing in this one. It will be a competitive, great afternoon in Tiger Stadium.”
LSU has won six straight against Ole Miss, but two years ago the Tigers had to go to overtime before winning 23-20. The Tigers also escaped with a 27-24 win in 2004.
