Fears over Obama’s presidency irrational

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 10, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 11/9/8

Growing up in rural Mississippi, one gets accustomed to listening to hyperbole and provocation when angry, frightened or ignorant people talk about race – be they white or black.

But the election of Democrat Barack Obama as the nation’s first black president has produced incidences of those kinds of discussions that shock me – and I really thought that after 30 years of listening to racist rants from drunks or punks on the phone that I’d heard it all.

Our friends at Fox News have generated their share of this kind of discussion. Back in May, pundit Dick Morris repeated on a broadcast of the Hannity & Colmes show his opinion already published his column that “growing fear of Obama will drag every last white Republican off the golf course to vote for McCain.”

On that logic, the links must have been really crowded on Tuesday.
