Earlier in the bitter cold February day, Frank Leahy, the young, successful head football coach at Boston College, had finally caved.
He had been sitting in his office when his boss, athletic director John Curley, dropped by.
“Look, coach,” Curley had pleaded with him, as he had for weeks regarding Leahy’s contract negotiations, “if I don’t get your signature, I may be asked to resign.”
