Republican Roger Wicker defeated Democrat Ronnie Musgrove in a bitter Senate race that will require the incumbent to campaign again in four years.
Musgrove had not conceded the race as of late Tuesday, though. His campaign spokesman, Adam Bozzi, said he wanted to wait until “tens of thousands” of affidavit ballots are counted in Hinds County and the Delta.
Bozzi said he expects all the ballots will be counted today, and added, “We’re not going to call an election until all of the votes are counted.”
Wicker told supporters at an election night party in Jackson that, “It was clear early on (Musgrove) came to play, and he did. We know we’ve had a race.”
With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Wicker secured 606,151 votes. Musgrove, a former Mississippi governor, received 488,367 votes.
