Cohen installs new philosophy at Dudy Noble
STARKVILLE — It’s a sunny Sunday afternoon and a pitch is zooming to Dudy Noble Field’s home plate. The batter, Brent Brownlee, does something that probably makes his coach smile inside: He moves his left shoulder in and the ball bounces off his back with a dull thud.
But it’s certainly not the pain of his players getting hit by pitches that pleases Mississippi State coach John Cohen.
It’s what happens next.
Two pitches later, Brownlee sprints to second base. He’s safe. He advances to third on a pitch in the dirt, then scores on a sacrifice fly. Before the inning is over, so do two of his teammates in this intrasquad game.
