Big 12 surpasses the SEC

Big 12 surpasses the SEC

The Big 12 Conference is making a strong statement that it, not the SEC, is the best football league in the country this season.
It’s hard to see it otherwise.
Here’s the argument: the No. 1-ranked team in the country in the latest BCS rankings is Big 12 member Texas. The league also is home to No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 7 Texas Tech, No. 9 Oklahoma State and No. 14 Missouri. The SEC has four teams in the BCS rankings: No. 2 Alabama, No. 6 Georgia, No. 8 Florida and No. 19 LSU.

Those numbers will change, perhaps dramatically, next week because Georgia plays Florida and Texas plays Texas Tech. In two weeks, Alabama plays at LSU.

But upcoming matchups give the Big 12 an edge, too, because the race to the SEC Championship Game could be over after the previously mentioned games in the next few weeks.
