Experience is key to being a judge, the candidates for the Mississippi Supreme Court agree.
The wheres, whens and hows of such experience vary by who’s running against whom.
Four contested Supreme Court races are on the Nov. 4 ballot – two in north Mississippi, one in the central part of the state and one in the south. In all four, sitting justices are being challenged. Three incumbent judges on the state Court of Appeals also will be on the ballot but are unopposed.
Judicial elections in Mississippi are nonpartisan – meaning candidates run without party labels. Runoffs, if needed, are Nov. 25.
The sitting judges are campaigning on their experience on the bench – the cases they’ve heard, the opinions they’ve written.
