Stafford’s flawless play puts Dawgs back in title talk
BATON ROUGE, La. — The pocket collapsed around him, just crumbled and left him vulnerable. No question, Matthew Stafford was about go get hit and it was going to hurt. But then, out of nowhere, the Georgia quarterback calmly stepped up, cocked that strong arm of his and fired a 49-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Green.
From nothing to something, just like that.
LSU fans were crushed.
Their national title hopes, too.
And if you want to know why Georgia’s damn-fine college quarterback will be somebody’s damn-fine NFL quarterback someday soon, that play is as good a place as any to start. It came midway through the third quarter Saturday and basically clinched the Bulldogs’ eventual 52-38 victory here at Tiger Stadium by turning a one-possession game into a two-possession game, and LSU never got within one possession again.
