October surprise is how Fulmer’s stock has fallen

KNOXVILLE — Before kickoff of the Tennessee-Alabama game on Saturday night, the Vols’ 1998 national championship team was introduced at Neyland Stadium.
But what should have been a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Phillip Fulmer’s greatest accomplishment as UT coach instead served as a telling point of comparison.

This is how far Vol Ball has fallen in 10 years.
Against Alabama, Rocky Top touched bottom.
And in the process, Fulmer may have moved past the point of no return. With a team that is no longer competitive against quality opponents, his days at UT appear numbered.
“We’re going to continue to work like heck to get it done,” Fulmer said after the 29-9 defeat.
