STARKVILLE — Sylvester Croom continued to be coy Thursday about the potential added weapon to his offense that he mentioned at his Tuesday press conference.
Asked by a reporter after Thursday’s practice if that secret weapon could be true freshman wide receiver Arceto Clark, Croom, the Mississippi State coach, smiled.
“We’ll find out Saturday,” Croom said.
In order to play Clark or another freshman wideout, Charles Bailey, State would end their redshirt freshman campaigns seven games into the season. Asked if he was hypothetically OK with doing that this late in the year, Croom said he was – “if I thought he could help us win the game,” Croom said.
Other potential adjustments could include increased roles for tailbacks Wade Bonner and Arnil Stallworth and wide receiver Delmon Robinson.
Injury updates
Senior free safety Derek Pegues missed Thursday’s practice with a hip injury but is expected to play Saturday against Middle Tennessee State, Croom said.
State’s only real injury issue is with center J.C. Brignone. He practiced Thursday after missing two straight days with side effects from a concussion he suffered in last week’s loss at Tennessee.
