New coach Bobby Petrino brought his high-octane offense to Fayetteville in the offseason, but the results so far have been mixed. Senior QB Casey Dick is having easily his best season statistically with 1,505 passing yards, but the six touchdowns to nine interceptions is not a good ratio. Junior RB Michael Smith has been one of the biggest surprises in the conference this season. He’s averaging nearly 132 yards per game and a solid 5.5 yards per carry. At receiver, Hogs’ freshman Joe Adams has a very bright future.
On Defense
Arkansas has easily the worst defense in the SEC this season, giving up more than 35 points and 355 yards per game. The Hogs had a particularly bad stretch earlier in the season, when they gave up 49, 52 and 38 points in three straight games to Alabama, Texas and Florida respectively. Lately, they’ve been a bit better with some young players stepping up. Freshman Alfred Davis has been one of the bright spots, with three sacks and five tackles for a loss. Freshman MLB Jerry Franklin has also shown promise.
