A VIEWER’S GUIDE TO THE DAY IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL: A No. 1 QB matchup

1. It’s been a long time, 24 years in fact, since Texas (6-0) played a regular-season football game as the nation’s No. 1 team. Coach Mack Brown said the Longhorns won’t stay that way very long if they are not ready to play today as they host No. 11 Missouri (5-1).
Today’s game in Austin will be the first time since Oct. 13, 1984, that the Longhorns have played a regular-season game as the top team in the land. “Every week we’re seeing teams learn the hard way that the only poll that matters, or lasts, is the final one,” Brown said. “No one remembers who was No. 1 after six weeks last year.”

It will be the second straight week that Colt McCoy has gone head to head with one of the best quarterbacks in the country.

McCoy outdueled Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford by completing 28 of 35 passes for 277 yards in the 45-35 win. This time it will be Missouri’s Chase Daniel, a Texas native who is looking forward to the homecoming after last week’s stunning loss to Oklahoma State.
