Plenty of work remains for No. 1 Texas
The last time Texas claimed the No. 1 ranking, the Longhorns could celebrate for months.
UT defeated Southern California for the national championship in January 2006, ending the season on the highest possible note.
No such luxury exists this time, as coach Mack Brown acknowledged Sunday.
“Every week, we’re seeing teams learn the hard way that the only poll that matters, or lasts, is the final one,” Brown said. “If we’re No. 1 in late January, it becomes a statement.”
