REBELS:They’re teamed up again as Rebels’ assistant coaches
OXFORD – The bridge to love and respect was never affected by the gap in time.
There are eight years between Derrick Nix and his brother, Tyrone Nix.
That never stopped Derrick from tagging along to pee-wee football games in Attalla, Ala., eventually following to Tyrone’s chosen college.
And when Derrick had the chance to become running backs coach alongside Tyrone at Ole Miss, it was a no-brainer.
“It’s meant a bunch to both of us, to be fighting on the same team again,” Derrick Nix says. “When I came out of high school one of my reasons for going to Southern Miss was to see what kind of success we could have on the same team.”
There was lots of it. There were struggles too, the biggest ones off the field.
Now the Brothers Nix want to see what kind of success they can have together with the Rebels.
The start has been good, 3-2 through five games and a win at No. 4 Florida, the Rebels’ first SEC victory since 2006.
