Flood Insurance extended seven months

By: Magnolia Tribune - September 25, 2008

The Sun Herald, 9/24/8

The House of Representatves last night approved an extension of the federal flood insurance program until April 30, 2009.

The bill, which passed by voice vote and is expected to go to the Senate for quick approval, effectively ends Rep. Gene Taylor’s efforts this year to include a wind program in the National Flood Insurance Program.

The wind provision, included in a House-passed version of a comprehensive flood insurance bill, ran into opposition in the Senate. With the program due to expire Sept. 30, lawmakers felt pressure to protect victims of Hurricanes Ike and Gustav and to resolve the $700 billion Wall Street bail-out.
