Mississippi has joined 24 other states in opposing announced plans by MillerJackson LLC [sic] to produce a new alcoholic energy drink — Sparks Red — that contains significantly higher alcohol content.
In a letter to MillerCoors, Attorney General Jim Hood and officials from the other states say Sparks Red defies increasing evidence from medical and public health professionals about the dangers of mixing alcohol with stimulants found in energy drinks.
Hoods says Sparks Red contains as much as 8 percent alcohol by volume, a significant increase over the alcohol content found in other alcoholic energy drinks.
Hood says such alcoholic energy drinks appeal to young drinkers.
