For the 14-member Legislative Budget Committee, it seems the story never changes.
As the committee began its hearings Monday, it was faced with how to fund state services with limited funds.
“I expect to find that we have more needs than resources – really nothing new,” said Sen. Alan Nunnelee, R-Tupelo, the Appropriations Committee chairman who is serving on the Budget Committee for the first time.
The Budget Committee, which consists of legislative leaders, including Speaker Billy McCoy and Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, will hear budget requests from state agency heads during the upcoming weeks and then develop a budget proposal.
That general fund budget proposal of roughly $5.5 billion is generally viewed as a guideline for the full Legislature when it convenes in January.
