Councilman Kenneth Stokes resigned from all of his Jackson City Council committees this week in a letter to the council president.
Stokes, who represents Ward 3, was assigned to the planning committee as well as the transportation and water/sewer ad-hoc committees.
“My schedule and demands on my time from my constituents will not allow me to serve on the committees at this time,” the letter dated Sept. 10 says.
Stokes declined to comment further about his reasons for the change.
Council President Leslie Burl McLemore said council members are required to regularly attend the two council meetings and two special meetings that it holds each month.
“Workload wise, it means that, essentially, you have six council members conducting or performing the heavy lifting,” McLemore said.
