When Doug Sethness finished designing a new Port of Gulfport, he put his pencil down and looked over his work, and what he saw startled even him.
“What I created was so massive that I was concerned that I may just be on another planet,” said Sethness, the vice president of CH2M HILL.
Gov. Haley Barbour gave Sethness a mission to design the new Port of Gulfport and create something that will be sustainable for generations to come.
“He said, ‘I want a port that will be sustainable for the next 100 years, I want to protect the community, I want to create an economic engine, I want to create jobs, good-paying jobs,’
” Sethness said. “And I said, ‘OK.’
