Bush, I mean Sarah Palin, Gave a Great Speech…
I suspect it is a lot like playing Political Mad Libs. You remember, that game as a kid where you picked nouns, verbs and adverbs and placed them in “blanks” just to see how a seemingly normal text could be funny? Same thing there.
Stick to the same Bush plans but insert some “Alaska” references, “all families have it tough”, and being “compassionate.” Viola – you have a speech for Sarah Palin.
Sarah Palin: Will America Choose Another Idiot?
Sarah Palin is, frankly, an idiot. McCain has very shrewdly chosen her for the simple reasons that she is 1, a woman and 2, young. That’s it. Her ability is neither here nor there because, if elected, she won’t be doing anything.
With Clinton gone the annoying group of voters who would vote for anyone as long as they were female is up for grabs. With Obama as his opponent, McCain can balance the age gap with a youthful running mate, just like Obama has with an older one. Of course the arguments each has flung at the other about age being an issue goes out of the window, but who cares.
Sarah Palin: Stupid or a Liar
As for her speech, she made many “mischaracterizations”. Did she do that because she is stupid or because she is just a liar. And not just a run-of-the-mill liar….she is an outright embarrassingly brazen liar. I don’t think Palin is stupid. But I do think that Palin believes that most Americans are stupid and that she can get away with her lies.
Why Is Sarah Palin Sneering So Much?
She’s just sneering over and over agaon (sic). I’m truly shocked at the level of nastiness here. There’s a belittling tone here that I’m not used to hearing on a national stage. It feels very FOX News, and the room loves (and their return sneers reflect it), but I don’t see how it plays to people who aren’t going to vote for McCain already. And it could turn some off.
The Palin Speech
Those of us who are supporting the Obama/Biden ticket can breathe a little easier after Sarah Palin’s speech. She did nothing but offer red meat to the GOP base. She did nothing to reach out to Independent voters or disaffected Hillary Clinton voters. Energizing the Republican base may have worked in 2000 or 2004, but it’s a losing strategy for 2011.

Even when she went on the attack, this God’s gift to cartoonists was amusingly dishonest. Her funniest line in the speech was when she said something like “Let me tell you exactly what the mayor of a small town does,” and then she didn’t.

Here’s my final word on Palin’s speech: just words. Compelling words, but shallow nonetheless. Much of her speech was an overreach and probably should have been titled: “A Profile in Overcompensating.”
