BATON ROUGE — The LSU football team was set to meet at 3 p.m. Sunday concerning the fast approach of Hurricane Gustav, which is expected to hit Monday and give Baton Rouge its strongest storm impact since Hurricane Betsy in 1965.

“It’s not necessarily a football meeting,” LSU coach Les Miles said after his team opened the season Saturday with a 41-13 victory over Appalachian State in a game moved up from 4 p.m. to 10 a.m. to help with Gustav traffic evacuation.

“We will discuss contingencies and settle any of those issues that might impact some of our players who have families in the southern Louisiana area and in the path of the storm,” Miles said.
