Ellis, who now has the designation of House majority leader, said Monday he would reimburse the state. That is after Republicans revealed the potential expenditure and it hit the media. I have seen a lot of questionable travel for legislators in my time, but nothing so outlandish.
Even reimbursing is out of line. The state should not be fronting any money for anybody to attend a poltical convention.
House Speaker Billy McCoy, D-Rienzi, said he offered the same deal to House Minority Leader Mark Baker, R-Brandon, who turned it down, as he most certainly should have. Then Republicans let the Dems have it over the issue, as they certainly should have.
Again, what were they thinking?
