You might think the new Southern Miss coaching staff would have had to sell Damion Fletcher on this new, fast-paced spread offense.
You might think that Fletcher, who rushed for nearly 3,000 yards in his record-setting first two seasons at USM, would be wary of change. You might think that Fletcher would be concerned that he might not touch the ball as much as he has in the past.
And you, like me, would be wrong.
Says Darrell Wyatt, the Golden Eagles’ new offensive coordinator, “Fletch understands. He’s a student of the game. He watches football enough to know what the spread is all about. He knew the idea is to create space, specifically one-on-one situations, and that’s where he’s best. There aren’t many linebackers or defensive backs he’s not going to beat in the open field.”
