OLE MISS:Nutt impressed by more than just QB’s throws
OXFORD – Jevan Snead hit his target, Mike Wallace, with a 65-yard touchdown pass on the first play, a sign of things to come.
Ole Miss lost another defensive starter Saturday, and the Rebels’ first scrimmage of August camp, a 100-play affair in the early afternoon at Vaught-Hemingway stadium, had a definite offensive tilt.
Outside linebacker Allen Walker left early in the workout with a knee sprain.
Friday, in the first day of full gear, senior defensive tackle Peria Jerry went out with a knee sprain.
Coach Houston Nutt said Saturday he expected Jerry to be out about 10 days. It does not appear he will require arthroscopic surgery, as did starting nose tackle Ted Laurent just prior to the beginning of camp.
Snead’s success wasn’t only about taking advantage of absent defensive players. He displayed arm strength, touch and accuracy but showed something much more important in Nutt’s view.
