New Auburn football offense a wide receiver’s dream

AUBURN – All the plays, the sweat, the promise of passes, the hoped-for catches, the perceived craziness of the spread offense.
Rod Smith knows all about it.
“I don’t think I’ve had a day yet without people asking me how the new offense is going. There’s definitely a buzz,” the Auburn wide receiver said after the Tigers completed their second fall practice Sunday.

Auburn’s leading pass catcher the last two years figures to catch even more passes this season, so all the worry and talk about wearing out in these Tommy-gun practices are going unnoticed, at least among his buddies.
“A wide receiver’s dream,” Smith said.
Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville expressed concern last week that offensive coordinator Tony Franklin’s quick-paced spread would wear out his receivers and defensive backs alike in August. He said practices might have to be geared toward a set number of snaps rather than how many plays could be stuffed into the many five-minute periods that constitute a normal practice.
