McCarthy ‘100 percent committed’ to Rodgers
Even if Brett Favre follows through on his proclamation that he will report to training camp with the Green Bay Packers, there appears to be little or no chance he’ll be given an opportunity to compete for a starting job.
In his season-opening news conference on Saturday, two days before the first practice, coach Mike McCarthy reiterated the team’s commitment to Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback no matter what happens in the “Brett Favre situation,” as the third-year head coach called it during his nearly 32-minute session with reporters.
McCarthy’s last words before he left the podium after dozens of questions about Favre were clear as could be: “We’re 100 percent committed to Aaron.”
Many of the Favre questions were hypotheticals:
Will he report?
What will you do if he does?
Why hasn’t he been traded or released if Rodgers is the clear-cut starter?
“I think everybody understands all the options that are in front of Brett and the Green Bay Packers,” McCarthy said. “The first step is reinstatement, and the second is he would be part of our 80-man roster, and then we’ll move from there.”
